Gate is a transition point for an object exiting one phase and entering another. This transition is accomplished by evaluating criteria.

Use the newGate static factory method(s), not the Gate constructor, to construct instances of this class. Instances must be constructed using the static factory(s), in order to ensure proper initialization of the instance.
